now that blu-ray has won the format wars microsoft might really need a new trick to bring new people into the 360 so i wouldnt be surprised if they had something up their sleeve.

I think MS would be kind of foolish to release a new console so soon after the 360, considering the fact that rushing the 360 out has caused them so many problems (and so much money). I think that, within the next few months, they will "quietly" (as in, 'without a lot of fanfare') release a BluRay add-on for the 360. They'll need to have one available to carry any hi-def weight, but they won't want to draw too much attention to the fact that they backed the wrong horse. And I would guess it's going to be another couple of years before we hear anything about a new XBox.

2 - What like signing up all the HD-DVD studios to Xbox live, or something? :P

3 - I think the OP is talking about a new version of the 360, not a brand new console.
