I know the 360 has a heating problem, and that is what causes the lock ups, has anyone been able to do something that has solved this problem with out effecting the warranty?

Hm.. Mine doesn't do it. Are you running it in the upright position or laying it down flat?

Either way it shouldn't matter. Mine's down flat.

Have you tried putting a fan on it or anything?

Mine is down flat, I know I am not the only one, because I have spoken with others online that have the some problem. I might need to see about increasing the air space around my unit.

Isn't it still under warranty? It came with a 90 day warranty out of the box. You should probably send it back to them because that definitely isn't normal behavior. Mine and the one my friend got are both just fine.

We've both left ours running for at least 10 hours a time. Maybe even more. Mine hasn't ever locked up. I sent him a voice message yesterday to ask about his. He says his doesn't do it either.

I don't know if we were lucky or if you were unlucky.

Well mine is in a cabinet, I probably need to increase its airflow. It also has a tight fit at the top of the cabinet restricting some of the airflow. Nowhere in the book does it give recommended clearances like a computer, but I bet that is what it is.

So far it has only been happening on NFS WM.

Yeah that's probably it. I'd give it a least two inches on either side. Four or six inches would probably be best though. I have mine out in the open pretty much. I think it's got four inches on the right side, five or so on the left. 12 inches in the back and about 12 feet above it. lol..

You can get one of these, but you have to run your system vertical. FreqWiz this might pose a problem with your cabinet setup. Xbox 360 Fan Stand

miens in a cabinet, not sure if u guys can tell by the pics (link on main page of the group) and it hardly heats up, i also have it right above my reciever which produces some heat itself. heating up shouldnt be a problem unless u got a bad unit, mines frozen a couple timoes but nothing i would be concerned about. i was concerned when i first got it about heat issues and was considering installing some fans onto the cabinet itself but i dont think i will, the console itself remains pretty cool, the top does heat up a bit (hdd) but thats to be expedted.

u guys didnt mention one thing though.... the brick (power unit) that heats up and can also cause problems, make sure that gets enough ventilation, even though it has its own fan inside, its best to keep it were the air can circulate, this is easy to forget cause that thing is ugly and we tend to just put it in the back under some cables, bad idea lol. i have mine sorta diagonal so the air can complete circulate, no probs so far.

The power brick, i leaned it against the wall diaganoly as well. I haven't had any problems at all with either the system or power brick. I think you just have to use common sense when dealing with any type of electronic component. There seems to be a lot of people out there that feel the 360 is built like a game boy or something. It's more like a pc. If you cram your pc in a little cabinet with other heat producing devices it will probably start flashing little lights at you as well. Disc scratches...Flip your pc on its side while reading a disc, it'll probably scratch that disc too.
Some of the freeze ups/Lock ups could simply be the game itself. Some type of glitch, or a glitch caused by something you do in the game. Keep in mind these games are the first out of the shoot. The Dev kits might work great and the xbox certification might be top notch. The bottom line is it's a new system and is bound to have a few bugs in the software because of the rush to make the release date. Don't even get me started on bugs in DOA4!!!

"So far it has only been happening on NFS WM."

Keep in mind, I have an old Xbox and NFS:MW and have experienced several crashes. All "tight loops" where about 1/4 second of noise is repeated and the screen is frozen. One was from (apparently) a corrupted game save and the others were just in-game failures. I think EA slacked on the testing a bit.
